Budgeting for the New Year

December 7, 2008 by admin

As you (re)assess your goals for the New Year, don’t forget to also review your budget. As a non-profit organization, it is vital that you plan carefully for the New Year and spend wisely. One of the greatest downfalls for non-profits is the failure to create and maintain a viable budget.

If you are receiving funding from a grant or another funding source, it is imperative that you keep accurate records of your spending. Your benefactor will request these records if you decide to reapply for funding. Also, do a thorough review of the programs you are offering. If a particular program is not producing the results you desire, you may want to discontinue it or restructure the program to gain the results needed.

Just remember that the program(s) you provide are a vital part of your community and offer services to those who might not otherwise have access to them. The careful handling of your budget will ensure the continued success of your program and the people it serves.
